Speech Title: Real-Time Image Processing with Efficient Dynamic Programming
Abstract: In image processing and computer vision, many problems are inherently related to optimization problems. Computing accurate solutions of these optimization problems is often challenging and requires a large amount of computation time. Algorithms that can efficiently compute accurate solutions to these problems are thus highly desirable for many real-time applications in practice. In this talk, I will present a new perspective on potential real-time solutions for these problems. Specifically, I propose to study and recognize the most important inherent structures of such problems and develop objective functions that can be efficiently optimized with dynamic programming. As an example, I will discuss the problem of image segmentation in image processing and show how accurate solutions can be efficiently obtained for general images. In addition, I will present how approaches based on dynamic programming can be developed for a few problems from different areas in image processing, including image enhancement, image retrieval, image registration and object recognition. In addition, I will present the limitations of this approach and discuss the possible directions of future research in this area.
